Purpose and Values

Purpose is unique. How we see the world, what makes us tick and what we see as the reason we 'get out of bed' is likely to be different for all of us. However often we don't take the time to define what purpose actually means to us, and if we've not looked at this in a while, how we need to redefine purpose in our own lives because of the way we've inevitably changed.

Purpose is clearly also guided by what we believe about our life. Our values and what's important to us drive the impact we want to have. The good news is that there's never a better time to re-examine and explore what purpose and values mean to us than when we're thinking about 'What happens next in our lives'.

Intellectual and occupational wellbeing

One factor we need to consider when thinking about 'what's next' is the role both intellectual stimulation, and the role of work, plays in our lives.

Whilst work can often create stress, and the impact of this stress may start the process of us thinking about what's next...work can often play an integral part in keeping our minds sharp.

Intellectual wellbeing is about keeping our brains active, and seeing what role either employed, self employed or voluntary work might play in whatever's next for you.

We know that spending time with people we love or like makes our lives more pleasurable. However often in our busy lives we can find ourselves not investing time in the relationships we know improve our wellbeing.

Social wellbeing is about making sure we're developing and nurturing the relationships which enrich our lives and the practical actions we can take to make sure we continue to build and maintain strong bonds throughout our lives.

Community Wellbeing

Kindness is good for us.

The positive impact we make in other peoples lives enhance our own wellbeing in a wide range of ways. Our actions can have a huge influence not only on other people, but also on the way we see the world. If these actions are positive in nature and we know we're making positive change in the world, in whatever way we choose to do it, then this can have a hugely beneficial impact to our happiness.

Community wellbeing is thinking about how we change our lives to help others in our communities, how we might spend our time helping others, and why we should consider this when we're thinking about 'what's next' in our lives.
